BOOKMARKS

I needed a bookmark and became one with things I had at home (watercolor paper, a red cord and some wooden beads):

After watching it, my niece asked me one for her ... so I did four models to choose:

Being a small piece of watercolor paper (16x5cm)  I used simple geometric designs (those doodles you do if you get bored in class), cat silhouette, for example, is from earrings I have ...

I also put adhesive felt of different colors in the rear, to give greater rigidity and finally punched and placed above color beads.

A little closer...

PORTRAIT FOR A BIRTHDAY PRESENT

After drawing with Autocad few days, I have some time to show you the portrait I gave last Friday.

There were others in between, I will show you some of them when delivered to their recipients. I can not show you others because the people who commissioned, prefer to remain them in the private sphere.

In any case, each of them is a new challenge, reflects different features, a determined look to capture and an illusion for people who give them away ... and of course for me! :)

HOW TO MAKE A CUSTOMIZED DIARY

Speaking yesterday with a friend  about wedding gifts, I remembered that back in 2009, I made a couple of diaries for two children making their First Communion. The idea was to make, plus a gift of economic value and a more personal gift, something that remained over time.

I have not many pictures of the process, but I can tell you the process.

MATERIALS:

2mm cardboard
Decorative paper
Metal spiral
A5 sheet of heavyweight paper
Spray adhesive
Adhesive paper
Padlock with key
printer
Wood, hinges and metal shutters, adhesive felt and white glue (for the box).

Boy diary
Girl diary
The process was as follows:

COVERS: First cut hard cardboard covers in  A5 size, apply spray adhesive and glue the decorative paper.

INTERIOR COVERS: For the inside covers, composed on a background color (orange for the child, and red for the girl), I wrote a personalized dedication

To compose pages, texts and photographs I used drawing software (Autocad)

Interior cover and first page
FIRST PAGE: In the first page I put a picture of each child, his name, and of course the date of his First Communion.

INTERIOR JOURNAL: Each page had his name printed on the top and lined paper to facilitate writing.

I wrote three types of pages that were alternated throughout the diary ... one with space for writing and drawings to color (10 different), another with space for write only and the third one with space to write and a photograph of a representative place of the world (65 different) indicating where place was and the country in which they can found it.

Some of these places were: A port in Denmark, Angkor Wat (Cambodia), the Acropolis of Athens (Greece), a view of Bergen (Norway), a view of Antarctica, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao view, a square of Brussels, ... and so on, 65 different places.

ASSEMBLY: Once all pages and covers were composed, drill the covers and place a metal spiral.
Then I put de padlock in the cover.

BOX: For the girl's diary I made a wooden box,
I cut the different parts in a carpentry and  I sticked them with white glue.  I covered the inside with red adhesive felt and with the same decorative paper used for the cover of the diary. Finally, I put the hinges and the metal shutters in the box, also with white glue.

STENCIL PORTRAIT FOR A BIRTHDAY PRESENT

Today, March 6, my favorite guy meets twelve. Do not panic, I have not a secret son of twelve XDDD ... he is my nephew, MARTIN.

As a gift for this year I decided to make a stencil with a picture of the last summer.

As I will not give it to him today and take this opportunity to congratulate him from here (I guess he will be excited to be on the internet ...;).

I hope you like it ;)

Stencil portrait on canvas (50x70cm)

MAKING OF:

When did the first stencil, I was so excited that I forgot to take pictures of the process I followed, but not this time.

Here I leave a little tutorial for all of you. Enjoy it!.

MATERIALS

Spray graffiti (black, white, dark gray and light gray), mask, latex gloves, cutter or knife, canvas, masking tape, thick paper for templates, newspaper or plastic to protect the work surface.

PROCESS

Step 01:

Choose an image, preferably with chiaroscuro and edit it until it is defined with the four colors that we use.

I used Photoshop, converting the first image to grayscale and applying the Posterize tool.

Step 02:

Transfer image to heavy paper, thin plastic or transparent paper, with the size of our canvas to create different templates.

In this case I have used paper and I have printed 4 copies in thick paper.

Step 03:
Mark on each template the outline of the color that we are going to cut.

Step 04:

Cut a template for each color, it is important to decide where we're going to cut to avoid areas remain undefined and decide which details are important to the final image and which not.

Step 05:

Place the first template on the canvas and secure the edges with masking tape. It is important to mark a point of reference if the material used for the templates is not transparent, to place them in the correct position.

Step 06:

In this case I began applying light gray, occupying a larger surface in the drawing, at a distance of about 30cm and avoiding use a large amount of paint. After applying a thin layer that covers all areas that we cut, we will remove the template carefully and let dry.

Step 07:

Place the next template, in this case corresponding to dark gray.

Step 08:

Apply
the dark gray in the same way as above, once the previous is dry.

Step 09:

Place the template that defines the
black color.

Step 10:

Apply the black
color, after the grey one is dry.

Step 11:

Being a stencil on canvas, not a street work,  I applied some white details at the end.

If
it were a street work, requiring more speed, this details should be defined in previous templates.

Step 12:

As a final step we set the template that defines the text with masking tape covering the rest of the canvas. I did at the end
the text in black , but it can be part of the black color template we used previously.

So far this little tutorial :)

MY FIRST STENCIL

I wanted to try other techniques and yesterday, while I was walking at night I located a store near selling sprays graffiti. This morning I could not resist it and I went to buy them. Excited, I returned home with 4 colors (white, black, light gray and dark gray) and an A4 canvas.

I chose one of my photographs of the past carnivals, I turn it into black and white and edited until it was defined with the four colors.

I made templates for each of the colors using transparent paper (because I had nothing better) and a cutter. For the following I will try some kind of plastic sheet and scalpel to achieve sharper edges and more manageable templates.

This is the result of my first attempt, I loved the whole process!
